About the Medical Directors Council
The National Council of State EMS Medical Directors (NCSEMSMD) is a council of the National Association of the State EMS Officials (NASEMSO). The council, composed of physicians, formulates recommendations on policies and positions specific to EMS medical direction and oversight. These recommendations are considered by the NASEMSO Executive Committee and positions are taken by the association as a whole (not by individual councils), to represent consensus of all state and territorial EMS offices, nationwide.
Vision, Mission, and Scope
- Vision: The NCSEMSMD is committed to the reduction of preventable death and disability due to sudden illness or injury through quality EMS medical direction and oversight as an essential component of integrated EMS systems in all states and territories.
- Mission: The NCSEMSMD provides medical expertise and leadership to promote and advance the provision of the highest quality EMS care.
- Scope: The NCSEMSMD provides a forum for communications, interaction and networking between peers, other national organizations and federal agencies with similar missions. This forum allows for the sharing of best practices; developing and encouraging mentoring programs; the joint resolution of obstacles and challenges; and the nationwide promotion of evidenced-based decision making.

Emergency Medical Services Medical Directors Professional Liability Insurance
- Provides professional liability coverage for services performed or advice given in your capacity as an Emergency Medical Services Medical Director.
- Coverage for bodily injury or personal injury arising out of direct patient care while acting in your capacity as an EMS Medical Director.
- Coverage for employment liability practices such as wrongful termination, discrimination, sexual harassment and retaliatory treatment, while acting in your capacity as an EMS Medical Director.
- Defense coverage for civil suits brought against you for sexual misconduct, while acting in your capacity as an EMS Medical Director.
- $5,000 defense coverage for proceedings brought against you by a state or other regulatory or disciplinary official or agency to investigate charges alleging professional misconduct in performing your duties as an EMS Medical Director. Coverage for disciplinary proceedings in the amount of $5,000
- Coverage for personal injury - false arrest, malicious prosecution, libel or slander,
while acting in your capacity as an EMS Medical Director.
