NASEMSO E-Mail Surveys

EMS Blood Use (2008) NASEMSO members were asked if their state allows transport of patients with blood running with only paramedic staffing. Report includes list and map of states that responded.

NASEMSO Survey on Oversight of Ski Patrols and/or Search and Rescue Teams (2008) NASEMSO members were asked if their state EMS agency has any oversight of ski patrols and/or search and rescue teams.

NASEMSO Survey on Reciprocity (2008) NASEMSO members were asked if their state allowed persons licensed in other medical fields (e.g. nursing, PAs, dentists and/or veterinarians) to either receive reciprocity for or “test out” as an EMT or paramedic (e.g. without attending an EMT or paramedic training program). The survey also asked members if their state allows persons licensed in other medical fields (e.g. nursing, PAs, dentists and/or veterinarians) to provide care on an ambulance in their state (either ALS or BLS) based on their credential in the other field with or without first getting a credential as an EMT or paramedic.

NASEMSO Survey on Implementation of the National EMS Education Agenda (2008) Published Mar. 25, 2008, this document represents results as of 4th Quarter 2007 on the NASEMSO survey regarding implementation of the National EMS Education Agenda. As of Dec. 12, 2007, there were responses from 33 states, for a 70% overall response rate. For more information on the survey, please contact NASEMSO Program Advisor Kathy Robinson.

NASEMSO Survey on EMS Instructors (2008) NASEMSO members were asked to complete a survey on the required pass rates and/or certification of EMS instructors in their states. Survey questions and results were provided by Norajean Miles Harrell, NREMT-P, Certification Administrator, Arkansas Department of Health, Section of EMS and Trauma Systems.

NASEMSO Survey on State Epi-Pen Requirements (2008) Twenty-seven states contributed to this e-mail survey on whether their states require epi-pens to be carried by BLS ambulances. Results were provided by Joe Schmider, Pennsylvania State Director.

NASEMSO State EMS Data Collection Survey (2007) Sixteen states contributed to this query about state EMS data collection systems. Results were provided by Terry Mullins, Chief, Bureau of EMS and Trauma System, Arizona Department of Health Services.

NASEMSO Survey of State EMS Directors on Background Checks (2007) The Kansas Board of EMS surveyed state EMS directors about guidelines and procedures on background checks. NASEMSO Survey Regarding Enforcement of EMS Regulations (2007) The Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services is working to improve the process for conducting investigations and enforcing EMS regulations. Through an NASEMSO survey, the agency sought information from state EMS offices and other entities about how enforcement penalties are assigned and procedures utilized to ensure due process for all appeals. Results were compiled by Michael Berg, Manager, Regulation and Compliance, Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services.

NASEMSO Survey Regarding Online Training (2007) This e-mail survey of medical directors and training coordinators regarding online training was conducted by Richard N. Rucker, Executive Director, Ohio Division of Emergency Medical Services. Responses were received from 21 states.

NASEMSO Survey of State EMS Directors About Ambulance Rates (2007) This e-mail survey of state EMS directors, conducted in April 2007, asked a number of questions about how rates and/or charges for ambulance services are determined. Responses were received from 23 states.

NASEMSO National Practitioner Data Bank Survey (2007) This e-mail survey of state medical directors was conducted in March 2007, asking whether states submit data to the National Practitioner Data Bank, and if so, which levels of providers are reported. Responses by state are included in the survey report.

NASEMSO State Medical Director Salary Survey (2007) This e-mail survey of state medical directors was conducted in March 2007, and information on high, low and average salaries is included in the survey report.

NASEMSO Epi-Pen Survey (2007) NASEMSO members were polled on whether their states mandate that basic life support ambulance services must carry Epi-pens; if not, whether the use of Epi-pens is allowed with local medical direction; and the cost of Epi-pens if purchased in bulk quantities. Survey results were provided by Robert Graff, Director of Emergency Medical Services, South Dakota.

NASEMSO Survey of State EMS Directors on Ability of ALS Level Providers to Bill for "ALS Assessment" (2007) This e-mail survey was conducted Jan. 9-16, 2007, and concluded that EMS provider services can bill for ALS assessment providing certain conditions are met.

NASEMSO Survey of State EMS Directors on STEMI Centers (2007) These are the results of an e-mail survey of state EMS directors conducted by Edward G. Wronsky, NY, on whether states have EMS protocols in place directing ambulance services to take patients identified in the field by 12 lead EKG as having ST elevations to state-designated STEMI centers or state-designated cardiac centers capable of treating these patients.
