NASEMSO Committees

Committees Overview
Committees have been created by the NASEMSO Board of Directors to represent areas of common interest among state EMS offices. Each Committee is a working body of the Association. Committees may present policy and position recommendations in draft form to the NASEMSO Board of Directors for approval.

Each Committee will provide a forum for communication, interaction, ideas for new initiatives, comment on national and/or federal documents requesting input, and networking among peers. These forums allow for: the sharing of best practices; developing and encouraging mentoring programs; the joint resolution of obstacles and challenges; and the nationwide promotion of evidence-based decision making for EMS system development.

Agency & Vehicle Licensure
(AVL)

The AVL Committee, to include air medical related issues, provides an opportunity for state EMS office staff responsible for the oversight and regulation of agencies and vehicles as well as industry professionals to stay up to date on the development of ambulance design requirements and standard testing.

Substance Misuse, Assessment, Recovery, Treatment, & Surveillance (SMARTS)

The SMARTS Committee shares EMS best practices in response to overdose patients. While EMS agencies have for decades administered life-saving naloxone to patients to reverse opioid overdoses, the dramatic increase in overdose deaths in recent years has necessitated developing approaches that go beyond reversing the overdose and provide opportunities and support for long term recovery.
